Breastfeeding
Breastfeed because it is perfect DVD : Guide to Breastfeeding and Baby Care
Recently I went shopping for nursing bra, baby items as well as nipple cream (just in case I need them). I had finally given birth to my baby and I am breastfeeding him. This is my third baby and my third time breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding is the feeding of the baby with the mother's breast milk instead of feeding the baby with formula or bottled milk/milk powder. Breast milk is the perfect milk for baby. It is the natural supply of a mother's milk to the baby once after childbirth. Mothers can choose to feed their babies with total breast milk (total breastfeeding) or mixing breast milk with formula milk (partial breastfeeding).
The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for all babies for the first six months, and continued breastfeeding with complementary foods thereafter, until two years and beyond. The longest period of breastfeeding I had for my first two kids was nine months. During the teething period, breastfeeding was the most difficult period. The new tooth protruding from the gum was so sharp that it hurt my nipple so much that it bled.
Now I am having another totally new breastfeeding experience with another special kid of mine. The initial stage was very painful and sore (having sensitive nipple). I was advised and given PureLan 100 (100% ultra pure lanolin). There are many brands and types of nursing cream. PureLan is just one among many others. PureLan soothes sensitive nipples and dry skin.
Nipple cream or Nursing Cream for sore nipples
Some advice on Sore Nipples:
Ensure the correct position when breastfeeding baby.
Break suction before taking baby off the breast.
Give shorter, more frequent feedings.
Use only water for washing.
When breasts are sore, offer the least sore breast first.
There are various nipple cream available for sore nipple/cracked nipple and I have to make sure that these cream would not have any effect on the baby. These cream that I had tried, as shown above in the photo, do not need to be washed off before breastfeeding baby. They are safe for the babies.
